Choreographer/Designer Saul Nash and Film maker Fx Goby bring their visions to life in this graceful hypnotic piece.
Saul is a Talented designer recently MA Menswear at the Royal College of Art. Dancing from a young age, he became fascinated with exploring movement and the male body through various mediums. Saul is an active Hip hop dancer formerly crossing paths with contemporary dance. Drawing upon his own youth, his work looks to quietly re-invent sportswear.
Conceived as a flowing dialogue between movements, ideas of male performativity take centre-stage as his garments dance with the wearer and act as a medium for self-expression.. The Title 'Static motion' encapsulates the process by which a man is able to liberate himself and tell his true story through movement.
For this film Saul has collaborated with Emmy nominated director Fx Goby, whose approach was to bring contrast and grace in an unexpected way to the male Dancers movements and clothing.
The idea of this film is to show that grace can be found everywhere. The film calls the viewer to look at the urban landscape with heavy concrete and bricks in a different way. The perfect blue sky and the sun generate sharp shadows, an almost surreal light and contrast rarely associated to London's sceneries. The camera captures a dreamlike moment where men let go of their movement embracing their sensitivities in a final almost religious communion.
